Delays of between 45 and 60 minutes are expected depending on traffic volumes between Waihi and Tauranga, as Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency contractors get back onto the network to repair, reseal and improve safety along SH2. Safety improvement works started on Monday between Athenree Rd to Tanners Point Rd, Rea Rd/Tetley Rd intersection and Lund Rd to Sargent Drive. Resurfacing works have restarted at various locations on SH2 between the Athenree Gorge and Te Puna this week. The resurfacing sites will be night works between 7pm and 5am under Stop/Go traffic management and a 30km/h temporary speed limit. For at least 24 hours after the sites are sealed, and before being swept, they continue to operate under a reduced temporary speed limit while vehicles travel over the seal and help “bed in” the chip. Resurfacing work was carried out between Mathers Rd and Old Tauranga Rd on Tuesday and between Apata Station Rd and Sargent Drive on Wednesday. On Friday resurfacing work will be carried out between Stoke Rd and Kauri Point Rd. In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, works may be postponed. Also on SH2 work is under way to repair and upgrade drainage on a 500m section of Takitimu Drive under the Waih¯ı Rd/11th Ave overbridge. The road is reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately three weeks, and the Waih¯ı Rd/Takitimu Drive onramp and off-ramp (Koromiko St) will remain closed during the works, with detours in place.
