The records the following passage in the second decade of its history. A vote of appreciation was passed to Messrs P. & H.O. Dillon for their offer of a shield for competition in the district. In 1921 a subcommittee was appointed to meet with the Waipukurau Bowling Club to discuss conditions for Dillon Shield matches. The first challenge was played at Waipawa on March 9 and on March 16, 1921 at Waipukurau. Four teams each participated and no result was recorded. In later years all bowling clubs in Central Hawke’s Bay participated in the Dillon Shield competition. Hector Owen Dillon was born in 1872 and died in 1930. His brother Percy Edmund Dillon was born in 1878 and died in 1966. Both men are buried in the Otane Cemetery. They were very active bowlers, featuring in results often found in early CHB Mail newspapers held at the CHB Museum.
